General Definition of Work

The technician, transportation operations, under general supervision, performs clerical work with minimal decision-making discretion related to the daily coordination and operation of assigned transportation area including communicating with stakeholders and maintaining records. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Transportation Area Manager.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Perform administrative functions including correspondence, filing, data collection and report development, and scheduling of appointments, meetings, and training
  • Perform daily payroll functions; work with area staff to collect any missing information that is needed to complete the weekly payroll
  • Coordinate with the Transportation Area Manager, Quality Support Technician, and Lead Drivers in the assigned area to identify the need for substitute bus drivers and work collaboratively to ensure daily bus coverage
  • Communicate with transportation area staff, school staff, and community members regarding operational information and bus schedule delays/changes. Relay instructions, guidance, and critical information concerning drivers, area staff, and equipment status from the Area Transportation Manager to community members
  • Communicate with schools, parents/guardians, and other departments regarding vehicle breakdowns, accidents, delays, and student issues as needed
  • Respond to transportation issues, complaints, and requests from schools and parents in a professional and courteous manner
  • Utilize Transportation Information Management System (TIMS) software to provide information to schools, parents, and drivers regarding routes and stops
  • Update system information including driver personnel data, attendance data, and related statistics
  • Collaborate with the Senior Operations Technician to ensure that area is appropriately staffed including advising on hiring/staffing needs and schedule changes
  • Assist in the preparation of material including agendas, information packets, and slides for Area Safety meetings and on-going driver training
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
