Position: Ed Tech III- K-5 Functional Life Skills MHS East
Reports To: Building Principal and Special Education Administrator
Qualifications Desired
Documentation of at least 90 credit hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
Must hold or be eligible for State of Maine Educational Technician III Certification and CHRC Approval Certificate.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of the instructional process and student needs, including those with disabilities.
Knowledge of emergency, health, and safety issues preferred.
Willingness to participate in ongoing in-service training as requested by administrators.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high ethical standards in handling student information.
Demonstrated competence for assigned responsibilities; prior educational experience preferred but not required.
Work Year
School year, in accordance with the Educational Technician Bargaining Agreement.
Job Goal
To assist the teaching staff in providing instructional support and maintaining a classroom environment in which students can fully benefit from the instructional program and available resources.
Performance Responsibilities
Instructional Support
Work with individual students or small groups to review and reinforce learning introduced by the teacher/content specialist.
Introduce new learning activities planned in consultation with the teacher/content specialist.
Assist in devising special strategies for reinforcing material based on students' individual needs, interests, and abilities.
Guide independent study, enrichment activities, and remedial work assigned by the teacher/content specialist.
Support students with functional needs, including data collection as outlined in student plans.
Supervise small groups of students in community-based learning programs.
Non-Instructional/Non-Evaluative Functions
Administer, score, and record achievement or diagnostic tests as assigned by the teacher/content specialist.
Assist students in using instructional equipment and materials.
Provide input to the IEP process, if requested.
Preparation of Materials
Assist in preparing instructional materials (e.g., copying, typing, laminating, filing, bulletin boards, calendars).
Student Management & Supervision
Assist with playground/recess, bus, study hall, detention, and lunch duties as assigned.
Supervise students during fire drills, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities.
Escort and assist students as needed.
Professional Growth
Participate in ongoing in-service training related to assigned responsibilities.
