Position Purpose

The Core Content Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Delivery
    • Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons that foster critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.
    • Design instruction aligned to school and district curricular goals.
    • Clearly communicate learning objectives and success criteria.
    • Integrate project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences
    • Design assessments and feedback cycles that promote growth and reflection.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.

Classroom Culture & Relationships
  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom culture grounded in restorative practices and belonging.
  • Facilitate Student Strong Start routines to build connection and readiness each day.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations and procedures for student behavior, movement, participation, and transitions.
  • Model respect, curiosity, and empathy in interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Treat all students in a fair, equitable, and respectful manner.
Monitoring Student Learning & Feedback
  • Maintain clear academic expectations, work standards, and timelines.
  • Monitor student learning during instruction through questioning, observation, and analysis of student work.
  • Provide timely, specific, and growth-oriented feedback on classwork and assignments.
  • Use diagnostic, formative, and summative data to adjust instruction and support student progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.

Professional Collaboration and Growth
    • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data, student work, and instructional improvement.
    • Collaborate with academic coaches and CCL Team to integrate relevance and real-world application into lessons.
  • Engage in Adult Strong Start and ongoing professional development.
  • Reflect on practice and demonstrate continuous professional growth aligned to school priorities.

Communication & Family Partnership
    • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, learning goals, and celebrations.
  • Collaborate with the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator to involve parents and guardians in learning experiences.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid North Carolina Teaching License in the relevant subject area.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or the appropriate content field.
  • Demonstrated success improving student outcomes.
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in Education or Curriculum & Instruction.
    • Experience with project-based learning or career-connected instruction.
    • Familiarity with restorative practices and SEL integration.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth.
