Cheltenham School District announces the following administrative position for the (2026-2027) school year:

POSITION TITLE: Elementary School Principal (K-5)

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Act 93; CASSA (Cheltenham Association of School Supervisors and Administrators)

SCHEDULE: 12-month, year-round position

Overview:

The Elementary Principal (K to 5 School) is responsible for overseeing the total operation of the school. The incumbent in this position performs the administrative functions specified by school law, board policy and directives set forth by the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. The elementary principal duties also include serving as the instructional leader and maintaining a safe and positive school climate for students, teachers and all auxiliary support staff and volunteers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the daily management of the school and office.
  • Oversees educators in the school, providing periodic observations and evaluations that are timely and constructive and completed based on the timetables set by the school district.
  • Identifying intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs affecting students' success in school, and taking steps to direct and coordinate the efforts of teachers and parents with staff services and special education personnel.
  • Offers additional training and guidance as necessary based on evaluations of professional staff.
  • Hires all faculty and staff for the school and presides over meetings that may be necessary to discipline a staff member.
  • Oversees, hires, and evaluates the performance of support staff.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Ensures a productive learning environment through continual collaboration with teachers, students, and parents.
  • Facilitates opportunities to connect with students by being present and available during arrival and dismissal, by appearing at school functions, and by meeting with students.
  • Enforces disciplinary policies and procedures with students.
  • Participates in parent meetings and conferences and acts as intermediary between parents, teachers, and students to deal with a variety of needs or issues.
  • Maintains competency and student academic achievement as prescribed by the school board.
  • Presides over staff meetings.
  • Ensures that necessary maintenance and repairs to the school property are performed.
  • Coordinates staff development for faculty and staff; provides instruction if needed.
  • Oversees the allocation of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees and implements the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate.
  • Represents the school in community activities and meetings.
  • Interacts with various stakeholders to foster a positive relationship between the school and community including the parent organizations, community organizations, and leaders.
  • Acts as liaison between the district and the school; communicates needs and information to both sides.
  • Serve as the instructional leader for grades K-4 responsible for student achievement and teacher evaluation
  • Collaborates regularly with other campus-based and K-12 leaders to ensure coherence of vision, program, and approach
  • Monitor and process personnel time records including leave requests and reports
  • Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate
  • Creating a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff
  • Providing for school safety
  • Developing and leading school-based teams in the improvement of instructional and procedural practices
  • Partnering with the school community to promote student learning
  • Implement Board policies and administrative rules and regulations relating to the school's function of operation, as directed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.

Qualifications:

Pennsylvania Elementary Principal K-6 or K-12 Principal certificate with Masters' degree.
Maintain current accreditation and credentialing as required by PDE.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to a variety of school district stakeholders including public groups and board of directors.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and apply mathematical operations to tasks.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism and deal with a verity of abstract and concrete variables.
Proficiency in the use of personal computer technology and ability to operate a variety of office equipment including a telephone, copy machine, fax machine, calculator.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all administrators and the management team, the Board of School Directors, parents, students, professional staff and the community.
Effective organizational and supervisory skills.
