TITLE:
Educational Interpreter for the Deaf

SALARY:
As determined by DD2 Classified Salary Schedule

DEPARTMENT:
Special Services

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:
190 days

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma is required
Must provide proof of the completion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours, OR in lieu of this, must pass the Para Professional Exam or the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test
National certification or Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.0 and successful completion of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment: Written Assessment
Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL)
Adherence to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment Codes of Professional Conduct

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Principal

JOB SUMMARY:
To provide interpreting services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, and to their classmates, and to the educational staff and others involved in the educational setting.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide interpreting for deaf and hard of hearing students, classmates, educational staff, and others involved in the educational
Provide interpreting for others activities during the regularly scheduled school day as needed ( i.e. field trips, IEP meetings, etc.)
Prepare for interpreting ( i.e. familiarization with the physical environment and with subject-area vocabulary and concepts)
Participate in educational team meetings
Attend all faculty and/or staff meetings
Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Principal
