Cape Elizabeth Middle School is seeking a dynamic general artist/educator to teach 5th - 8th Grade Art as well as lead a Homebase Class as a part of CEMS' Advisory program. We are looking for a candidate who loves and understands middle school learners and can engage students with varied media and techniques, fostering experimentation and personal voice, providing meaningful feedback, and supporting students' academic and social growth.
The ideal candidate will:
Have or be able to acquire in the first two years of employment, current State of Maine certifications in K-12 Art Education
Demonstrate a commitment to middle school philosophies of teaching and learning.
Be skilled in both 2D and 3D art
Maintain an active art practice
Be able to design a studio-based curriculum that supports students in creating, presenting, responding to, and making connections through art in ways that emphasize artistic skills, creative process, critical thinking, and visual arts literacy.
Be familiar with standards based teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
Show a commitment to building relationships with students, families, and coworkers.
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Have a strong background and demonstrated capacity to differentiate for learners on all ends of the learning continuum.
Have experience with PBIS
Be committed to using trauma-informed approaches to support SEL and positive behavior, and be confident in their use of Tier 1 practices for effective classroom management.
Have the ability to work well with and contribute to the effective functioning and growth of the small team, the grade-level team, and the school as a whole.
Cape Elizabeth Middle School is a 5th-8th Grade School in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. We serve about 450 students who are passionate and eager learners.
