The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Senior Army Instructor, for the Garfield JROTC Program, Job Code 428, TS 462, Salary Range TBD. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Commissioned Office/Warrant Officer retired less than five years from the US Army, US Army Reserve, or US Army National Guard and proper certification through the U.S. Army Cadet Command.
Desired:
  • Local Resident (native to the area, or willing to move);
  • Experience working with teenagers (i.e. coach, scout leader, teacher).
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
  • Teaches a multi-subject, three or four year curriculum and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and
    procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner;
  • Instructs in military drill;
  • Maintains control of all government furnished equipment/materials (including semi-annual 100% inventories);
  • Writes/updates lesson plans for multi-subject curriculum and takes courses of instruction to improve teaching abilities;
  • Ensures proper physical security of all government furnished equipmental/materials;
  • Plans and conducts extracurricular activities for JROTC (including color guard ceremonies, drill team, rifle team, academic teams, and competitive meets, field trips, JROTC leadership camp, etc.);
  • Prepares monthly, semi-annual, annual and periodic reports on program administration and logistics;
  • Keeps current on new developments and organization with the US Armed Services branch;
  • Assesses JROTC Program to assure program objectives are met;
  • Attends government sponsored seminars to keep abreast of new requirements of program management;
  • Makes annual presentation on JROTC Program to all students at "feeder" schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets in the program;
  • Counsel students in the JROTC Program and establishes rapport with school counselors and all faculty members;
  • Maintains financial accounts of operation budget and prepares financial vouchers for reimbursement of expenditures to the school, made in support of the JROTC Program;
  • Establishes contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition of the JROTC Program;
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required;
  • Report to and carry out any other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal
