POSITION PURPOSE: The elementary school music teacher teaches general music classes to children ranging in age from kindergarten through fifth grade.

POSITION PURPOSE: The elementary school music teacher teaches general music classes to children ranging in age from kindergarten through fifth grade.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches general music including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Provides opportunities for music ensembles including rock band, choir & musicals.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school and community.
- Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body. Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Develops and refines music curriculum based on music standards of creating, performing, and responding.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluates each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Cooperation with Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
- Ability to work with musicians/vocalist at all skill levels
- Strong instrumental/vocal skills
CERTIFIED TEACHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Valid teaching certificate (SC or Out of State) or Passing exam scores
- Three professional confidential references completed
* new graduates -reference from cooperating teacher & supervising professor
*experienced teachers - reference from most recent supervisor
- Negative TB test result less than 1 year old - upload if available or upload statement will provide at new hire orientation.
- Current OCSD employees - "I am currently employed with OCSD. TB Test is on file."
- TB Test result must be submitted at new hire orientation (no exceptions).
