Position: Pre-School Associate Teacher

Location: Multiple Locations

Reports To: Building Principal

Work Year: 172 Days, 35 Hours per week

Start Date: 2026-2027 School Year

Summary of Position:

The Associate Teacher supports instruction, classroom management, and student care while reinforcing concepts and skills introduced by the lead teacher. The position also includes non-instructional responsibilities that contribute to a well-organized, safe, and engaging learning environment, as well as building positive relationships with students and families.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in delivering lessons to individuals and small groups.
  • Support development and implementation of developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Assist in preparing materials and classroom resources.
  • Reinforce concepts, skills, and behavior expectations set by the lead teacher.
  • Support implementation of curriculum.
  • Gather and document student assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
  • Support positive classroom climate and behavior systems (e.g., PBIS).
  • Supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Assist with student self-care, grooming, and basic medical needs as required.
  • Assist with transitions, including loading/unloading students from buses.
  • Build positive relationships with students to support learning and development.
  • Collaborate with lead teacher and staff in planning and instruction.
  • Participate in meetings, IEPs (when appropriate), conferences, and school activities.
  • Attend home visits, family events, and open houses.
  • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with families.
  • Communicate student needs and concerns to the lead teacher.
  • Maintain student records and files.
  • Complete clerical tasks such as attendance and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing and program requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training.
  • Duties as assigned by the building principal or designee

Employment Qualifications:

Must have one of the following educational requirements:
  • An associate's degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent; or
    • A valid classroom CDA credential; or
    • Willingness to obtain CDA or an associate's degree in early childhood education or child development within two years from the date of hire.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to attain.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move frequently throughout the day
  • Ability to sit on the floor and transition up and down regularly
  • Ability to lift approximately 40-70 pounds (including assisting children)
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to hear and communicate effectively in noisy environments

Work Environment:
  • Classroom-based preschool setting.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Combination of indoor and outdoor work.
  • Direct responsibility for student safety and well-being.
