Please Note: Summer School positions are dependent on Student enrollment and will be held at Westerly Middle School from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Job Summary: The Math Teacher is intended to provide a foundation in mathematics acquainting students with a focus on the fundamentals of the District's core curriculum. By providing engaging, hands-on curriculum, and encouraging the development of problem-solving skills, critical thinking and creative/innovative reasoning.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides instruction on pre-approved curriculum in the content area.
  • Integrates soft-skill instruction into competency-based content area activities.
  • Plans and implements problem based learning units.
  • Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more efficient strategies.
  • Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems.
  • Relates lesson content to prior and future learning.
  • Adheres to the requirements and standards of the Rhode Island Department of Education Educator Evaluation process.
  • Collaborates with other core content teachers on common course planning, integration and alignment.
  • Attends all relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Committed to establishing and maintaining frequent communication with parents/guardians.
  • Possesses knowledge and skills in differentiating learning processes, content, and assessments.
  • Ability to adapt to the various ages within a High School setting.
  • Proficient in technological applications and presentation.
  • Establish appropriate classroom rules and procedures that are clearly understood by all students.
  • Effectively and consistently enforces rules and requires adherence to procedures by students.
  • Redirects students naturally and immediately without disrupting others.
  • Organizes materials and equipment, etc., to be ready for immediate use.
  • Begins and ends class period with focus on learning.
  • Establishes a positive learning environment.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Experience:.
    • Experience working with the ALEKS learning platform, including proficiency in managing assignments, monitoring progress, and supporting implementation.
    • Knowledge of curriculum design, lesson planning, and pedagogy, experience preferred.
    • Experience in innovative, problem based instruction preferred.

  • Education:
    • Bachelor degree required.

  • Certification & Licensing:
    • Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and or certifications.

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Walk, climb stairs, bend and lift up to 45 lbs.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
