Located a 1/2 mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, Old Orchard Beach High School is a 200 student comprehensive high school seeking a full-time teacher. The position is .5 English teacher and .5 Multilingual Learner teacher to join our faculty.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maine State Teaching Certification #100 (7-12 English)
  • Maine DOE ELL Endorsement #660 (preferred)
  • Maine Department of Education CHRC (Criminal History Record Check)
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Extensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.
  • Commitment to providing multilingual learners with equitable access to grade level curriculum.
  • Deep understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Assist with progress monitoring of multilingual students and provide input on individualized language acquisition plans.
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide customized, small and large group instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous, relevant, and engaging English instruction to students of varying abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills with parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote and support student success.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Facilitates the common use of interpreter and translation services to ensure clear and consistent communication for multilingual families.
  • Continues professional growth through various means such as PLCs, conferences, workshops, professional memberships, reading, etc.
  • Administers standardized and common assessment in accordance with district and state assessment schedules.
  • Regularly uses student data to inform instruction.
  • Maintains technological proficiency for purposes of instruction, reporting and communicating.
  • Analyzes student data including WIDA ACCESS, NWEA, MTYA to plan and inform instruction and direct programming.
  • Supports the process of identifying multilingual learners and determining their eligibility for ESOL services in accordance with the RSU 23 LAU Plan
  • Shows evidence of sensitivity to diverse cultural background and customs.
