Job Description
Job Description
Worcester Cultural Academy Public Charter School is seeking a passionate and skilled lower elementary teacher to join our school in Worcester, MA. We are looking for culturally competent educators with experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with IEPs. We welcome candidates who reflect the cultural diversity of our community.
Who We Are
WCA is a growing charter public school that opened in August 2023 with a vision of becoming a K-8 community. We launched with kindergarten and have added a grade every year since - this fall we welcome our first 7th graders. As an EL (Expeditionary Learning) Education school, we believe in hands-on learning that challenges students to grow in three dimensions: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. We partner with organizations like the EcoTarium, Worcester Art Museum, and Hanover Theater and anchor our curriculum in Learning Expeditions that make learning meaningful and real. This is a school where teachers are builders, not just deliverers - and we're just getting started.
We want to be honest with prospective candidates: this is energizing, demanding work. Our school day is longer than a traditional district schedule, our expectations are high, and we ask everyone on our team to go beyond the boundaries of a job description when students need it. If that excites you, you'll fit right in.
What You'll Do
Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that spark curiosity, critical thinking, and joy in young learners
Plan and facilitate Learning Expeditions - the hallmark of EL Education - that connect academic content to real-world experiences and community partnerships
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs, using culturally responsive teaching practices
Use data to drive your instruction: analyze iReady results and ongoing progress monitoring to adjust your practice and support every learner
Provide intervention support for students who need additional scaffolding
Engage students in portfolio-based assessment and support student-led conferences as a meaningful demonstration of growth
Build strong, proactive relationships with families - seeking out perspectives across a range of identities and communicating with care and consistency
Contribute to our school's identity as an anti-racist school community, modeling student empowerment and a "whatever it takes" commitment to every child's success
Take on responsibilities beyond the classroom as needed - supervising students, contributing to school culture, and showing up as a full member of our community
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Massachusetts teaching license (PreK-2 or Elementary 1-6) or eligibility for licensure; subject matter MTEL accepted
Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement (or willingness to obtain)
Experience with young learners and a deep understanding of early childhood and elementary development
Comfort using data - iReady, MCAS, and benchmark assessments - to inform instruction and monitor progress
Willingness to participate in EL Education training and engage with the broader EL network
Availability for summer professional development prior to the start of the school year
A collaborative spirit and genuine commitment to a team-oriented, mission-driven culture
Persistence, problem-solving ability, and the flexibility to take on whatever the work requires
Full-time
Salary commensurate with experience; $52,562-$81,004

Welcome to ATX Learning
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School will provide k-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas. The school will be distinguished by four key elements of EL Education: a commitment to community, a commitment to high-quality work, a commitment to real world applications and a commitment to imagination, exploration and immersion. A culture of quality will permeate the school and our students will graduate with an understanding of how they learn best and how to advocate for the resources they need when they are challenged.
