Job Description General Definition of WorkThe driver education specialist, under general supervision, performs intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion providing coordination and oversight of the district-wide driver education program. Position will plan, coordinate, and evaluate program activities and day-to-day operations. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the executive director of athletics.

Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Develop and monitor driver education program goals and objectives
- Assist in organizing the review and analysis of instructional materials/software related to the driver education curriculum in its alignment with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI)
- Facilitate the purchasing, distribution and maintenance of instructional materials, supplies, and cars according to policy and guidelines from Finance
- Participate in the development and administration of the program budget
- Coordinate the bid process for selection of private driving schools to serve students
- Evaluate the performance of contracted driving schools
- Coordinate with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) the supervision of driving schools
- Maintain an accurate database of driver education students
- Compile and analyze program data; deliver program reporting and status updates
- Develop and provide training for driver education teachers to increase content knowledge and appropriate use of driver education materials
- Communicate any changes from NC DPI or the DMV with driver education instructors
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Maintain and update related information on district websites
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies
- Comprehensive knowledge of current regulations, rules, laws and fiscal policy pertaining to driver education
- Comprehensive knowledge of program development, coordination, supervision and evaluation
- Skilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications
- Ability to administer and monitor a budget
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
- Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
- Ability to communicate effectively

Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in education or related field required
- Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in a driver education program required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements- Possession of DMV Driver Education Certificate or ability to obtain upon hire
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
