Position Summary
The 5th Grade Science Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) for science. The teacher will create engaging, hands-on, and inquiry-based learning experiences that promote scientific thinking, curiosity, and academic achievement while supporting the developmental needs of elementary learners. The teacher will foster a positive learning environment that prepares students for success in upper grades and future STEM learning opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and implement standards-based science instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Grade 5 Science.
Develop engaging lessons that incorporate scientific inquiry, experimentation, hands-on investigations, and real-world applications.
Create opportunities for students to explore concepts through observation, questioning, data collection, analysis, and problem-solving.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to address diverse student learning styles and needs.
Differentiate instruction to support all learners, including students with disabilities, English language learners, academically gifted students, and students requiring intervention.
Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and growth.
Use student data to guide instructional planning and intervention strategies.
Integrate technology and STEM-related experiences into science instruction to enhance student engagement.
Maintain a safe, organized, and effective classroom environment, ensuring appropriate use of instructional materials and science equipment.
Establish and maintain positive classroom management practices that support student learning and responsibility.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, intervention staff, and administration to improve instructional practices and student achievement.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements.
Participate in school improvement initiatives, professional development activities, Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), and district-required training.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and other required documentation.
Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field.
Must hold or be eligible for a valid North Carolina teaching license in Elementary Education (K6).
Demonstrated knowledge of elementary science content and instructional practices.
