The Academy at Middle Fork uses an innovative, team-based teaching model that promotes co-teaching and restorative practices. The teacher assistant will be a member of a collaborative grade level span and will use co-teaching and small group instructional strategies to meet the needs of students. They will play an integral role in assisting with the implementation and facilitation of a robust academic program for students. The teacher assistant provides a broad range of services that assist students in developing skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning. The teacher assistant uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students.

Appalachian State University Academy at Middle Fork and Academy at Elkin are tuition-free, public lab schools serving grades K-5. Both Academies are partnerships of Appalachian State University and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and Elkin City Schools.
App State will be the only UNC System institution to operate two lab school programs.

The lab schools employees, including a principal, teachers, and support staff, will be hired by App State and will be university employees.

Job Requirements

Degree in elementary education
Hold or be eligible for a NC teaching license in elementary education, K-6
