THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

POSITION TITLE: Teacher

ASSIGNMENT: Teacher - Online Course

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution as determined by the Florida Department of EducationCertified by the State of Florida in the appropriate subject areaPhysical Requirements: Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objectsSatisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to plan, design and develop online course content and assessments.Infuses 21st century technology and skills into content.Knowledge and experience working within learning management systems.Experience in providing professional development in instructional technology.
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning processIdentifies or develops long- and short-term plans based on student needs which are consistent with District and State curriculum requirementsPlans and prepares lessons and instructional strategies which support the school improvement plan and the District missionIdentifies, selects, and develops or modifies instructional materials to differentiate support learning objectives and to meet the needs of students with diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, learning styles, and special needsAssists in preparing for changing curriculum needs and continuous improvementAssists with enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policyEstablishes and maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures, including student records subject to the requirements of the Family Rights and Privacy ActManages time effectivelyInterprets and utilizes data (including, but not limited to, standardized and other test results)Establishes appropriate testing environment, and ensure test securityApplies principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional deliveryDifferentiates instruction by using a variety of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and special needsUses appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students including tutoring when neededProvides quality work for students, focused on meaningful, relevant, and engaging learning experiencesEnsures student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or student program classificationProvides instruction on safety procedures and proper handling of materials, equipment, and online safety where appropriateRecognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse, and take appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actionsCollaborates with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons to assist in meeting student needsCollaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environmentAssists others in acquiring knowledge and understanding of particular area of responsibilityEngages in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skillsConducts personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs with reference to specific instructional assignmentActs in a professional and ethical manner and adhere at all times to the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional ConductFulfills professional responsibilities and meets established performance targets/goalsSupports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programsCommunicates effectively with students, parents, and staff in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills within established timelinessKnowledge of curriculum content and instructional best practices for online learningDemonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies and uses appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet learning needs of all studentsDesign and implement virtual learning that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the districtDevelop, implement, and evaluate the virtual curriculum, schedule, philosophy, goals, and objectives reflecting school, District, Federal, and State goalsAssist students and parents with technical support requests relating to the course interface and student information systemsUses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasksAssist in providing information to community groups, schools, or parents about virtual instructionParticipate in community-based extracurricular activities as requestedInterprets and utilizes standard formative and summative assessments in order to differentiate and improve instructional practices and strategies to assist the continuous development of learnersEvaluate student performance on a regular basis and providing feedback to students and parents within established timelinessEnsures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classificationMeet program expectations for progress monitoring and demonstrate gains in student performanceMaintain records of parent and student contactRefer students who are not complying with course or program policies to the site administrator for necessary interventions within established timelinesAlert site administrator when a student, parent, or guidance counselor fails to respond to attempts to communicate within established timeline
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervising administrator

TERM:

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process

APPRAISAL:

Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies

PAY GRADE:

According to the School Board of Highlands County Instructional Salary Schedule
