Position Summary

J.H. Rose High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Physical Education Teacher with expertise in Strength and Conditioning to develop and implement a comprehensive program that promotes physical fitness, athletic performance, and lifelong wellness. The successful candidate will provide engaging instruction during the school day while collaborating with coaches and school staff to support student-athletes and the overall physical development of all students.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned physical education instruction with an emphasis on strength and conditioning principles.
  • Design and implement safe, effective, and age-appropriate fitness programs for students of varying ability levels.
  • Teach proper exercise techniques, movement patterns, injury prevention, flexibility, and recovery strategies.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages participation, personal growth, and teamwork.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of student performance and participation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized weight room and fitness facilities, ensuring equipment is properly used and maintained.
  • Collaborate with athletic coaches to support student-athlete development while maintaining the instructional focus of the physical education program.
  • Utilize student performance data to monitor growth and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs), faculty meetings, professional development, and other school initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administrators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate physical exercises and movement techniques.
  • Ability to lift, move, and organize fitness equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise students throughout the instructional day.
Qualifications
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license (or eligibility to obtain licensure).
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, exercise science, fitness programming, and injury prevention.
  • Experience teaching physical education and/or coaching is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations.
