Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required.Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening

- Paygrade 8:Health worker with Certificate of Completion of Instructional Assistant or AA, AS, AAS degree or higher
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:Observes and assesses students for deviations from normal. Acts as facilitator in the nurses's absence. Helps students with basic comfort measures, takes routine care of students by providing first aid for acute illness and injury.Reports findings to the supervising nurse for a complete nursing assessment as needed.Assists/performs basic first aid and CPR for students and staff.Makes parental contact as needed to report student illness or injury.Assists students to take medication as prescribed and monitors students receiving medications. Maintains documentation of medication administration according to policy.Measures, assesses, and records vital signs when appropriate.Maintains daily health log and student records of services according to established procedures.Maintains orderly health room and orders supplies as needed.Provides excellent customer service, phone etiquette and complaint management as defined by the Highlands County Health Department policies and procedures #01 Customer service and #02 Phone Etiquette StandardsReviews the health records of all students for proper documentation of immunizations and physical examsPurges health folders of duplicate formsNotifies supervising nurse of instances of incomplete immunizations or lack of physical examination and documented chronic health problemsAssists nursing supervisor with tracking student in the process of completing immunizations, physical examinations, and records as neededAssists with maintaining Health Alerts for students chronic conditions and keeping teachers and staff informed and updated on a regular basisPerforms health screenings: vision, hearing, growth, BMI and hypertension as required by school health policy and state mandatesCoordinates and schedules health screenings: vision, hearing, growth, scoliosis, and dental, as delegated by supervising nurseAssists the supervising nurse with rescreening of students who fail initial screening as neededSends referrals and abnormal findings to parentsKeeps an accurate record of referral follow-ups and outcomesInforms supervising nurse of progress with referralsAssist supervising nurse with case management of students with health related problems. May make follow up telephone calls or send home forms for health information. Keeps nurse informed about all case management activitiesRefers suspected child abuse, pregnant teens, possible substance abuse, suicide threats/discussions, student with emotional problems and any other non-routine incidents directly to administration and supervising nurseFollow State statues for reporting suspected child abuse. Reports student outcomes or changes in health status to staff and supervisor when indicatedMaintains the highest standards of professional conduct and ensures confidentiality at all times. Shares information only when the recipient's right to access is clearly established and the sharing of such information is clearly in the best interest of the clientAttends selected training workshops and in-service programs as requested by supervisorPerforms other job related duties as assigned by supervisorWorks cooperatively with others; keeps others informed of necessary and factual informationFacilitates the operation of a team of which he/she is a part and fosters teamwork across the work unitsEncourages open communication and coordination between all members of the health care teamCommunicates clearly and listens effectively; deals effectively with conflict, and avoids negative gossipOther related duties as required by the supervisor

TERM:Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting

PAY GRADE:According to the School Board of Highlands County Non-instructional Support Personnel Salary Schedule
