Black Mountain Academy is a year-round therapeutic boarding school supporting neurodiverse high school students-primarily assigned male at birth-in developing essential social, emotional, academic, and life skills.

Our relationship-based, hands-on learning approach empowers students to grow, explore, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment. We specialize in helping adolescents who experience challenges related to learning differences, social skills, executive functioning, and emotional regulation.

Our students are often diagnosed with:
Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 ("high functioning autism" / "Asperger's")
Social-Pragmatic Communication Disorder
Executive Functioning Disorder
ADHD
Anxiety or Depression

Position Overview
We're seeking a creative, energetic Math Teacher who is passionate about experiential learning and dedicated to meeting the needs of students with learning differences. In this role, you'll join a close-knit, supportive school community where your work has a direct impact on students' personal and academic growth.

Key Responsibilities
Teach math courses including Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus (Calculus experience a plus).
Design engaging, real-world lessons that integrate academic concepts with life skills.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support students' individualized learning goals.
Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, respect, and resilience.
Participate in year-round programming, including the summer semester.
Smaller class sizes
Fewer standardized testing pressures
Autonomy in curriculum and pacing
Ability to teach conceptual math, not just test prep

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
State licensure preferred, but not required. Content expertise valued. Mentorship provided.
Minimum 2 years of teaching experience preferred; experience in special education or working with neurodiverse students strongly preferred..
Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Strong communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills.
