Description:

We are seeking a passionate, creative, and dedicated High School English Teacher to join our school community. The successful candidate will inspire students to become thoughtful readers, confident writers, effective communicators, and critical thinkers while creating a supportive and engaging classroom environment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in English or English Education, Secondary Education with an English concentration, Literature, or Writing

Massachusetts certification appropriate to area of assignment

Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.)

Responsibilities:

Performance Responsibilities:
Demonstrate knowledge of the subject area.Guide the learning process toward the achievement of district and school curriculum goals.Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students.Plan instruction based upon explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do.Create or provide learning experiences that develop students' abilities and require the application of thinking skills.Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.Organize instruction around essential questions or core learning objectives; teach for understanding and/or mastery; provide students with practice and extension opportunities as needed.Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of assessment; provide reports of student progress as needed.Use assessment data to inform instruction.Create a classroom learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respect is shown.Carry out the school's disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner.Give assignments that reinforce classroom instruction.Communicate student progress and development to parents.Provide written assessments, referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs. Participate in IEP meetings as required.Participate in professional growth opportunities.Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students.Attend staff or team meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.Perform other such duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Principal and/or Program Director or Program Administrator, consistent with the BEA Contract.Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
Essential Functions of the Job:

Must possess the ability to:
  • Build positive relationships with students in support of their academic and social development.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide timely progress reports.
Must be able to:
  • Plan a program of study that, to the extent possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Apply relevant content knowledge to the subjects taught.
  • Apply knowledge of child growth and development to effectively address the needs of students.
  • Physical and Environmental Demands:
  • The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Ability to work in a normal classroom and school building environment.
  • Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with students and teachers.
