Educational Technology Coordinator - Webmaster

JOB GOAL

Leads the planning, administration, accessibility, content governance, and continuous improvement of Wilson County Schools district and school-based websites. Serves as the district webmaster and provides technical and instructional leadership to ensure web content is accurate, current, secure, user-friendly, and accessible to individuals with disabilities while supporting consistent district branding, effective communication, and the educational technology needs of schools and departments.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Holds a valid Tennessee educator license; a minimum of five (5) years of successful educational experience is preferred;
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of website administration, content management systems, web publishing, digital communications, and web-content governance in a school district or comparable organization;
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and accessible digital-content practices for websites, documents, forms, images, and multimedia;
  • Demonstrates proficiency with web-content management systems, HTML/CSS concepts, website analytics, search optimization, link and content auditing, accessible document practices, and common web-authoring tools;
  • Has strong written, verbal, presentation, training, project-management, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills and is able to collaborate effectively with district leadership, school personnel, communications staff, technology staff, vendors, families, and the public; and
  • Meets the physical and other requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with applicable state and federal law, Board policy, and district procedures governing evaluation of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Serves as the district webmaster and has primary responsibility for the day-to-day administration, organization, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Wilson County Schools public website;
Administers the district website content management system (CMS), including templates, navigation, page structure, user roles, permissions, publishing workflows, integrations, and other settings within the assigned scope;
Establishes and maintains district-wide website standards for structure, navigation, branding, content quality, accessibility, usability, and consistency across district and school-based websites;
Oversees school-based websites and supports designated school web editors by providing training, documentation, troubleshooting, quality review, and guidance on district web standards;
Maintains an accurate inventory of district and school website editors, administrative permissions, website ownership, and content responsibilities and periodically reviews access to support security and appropriate publishing authority;
Leads website accessibility efforts within the Educational Technology program and works collaboratively with the district ADA/Section 504 coordinators, Communications, Technology, administrators, and content owners to support compliance with applicable disability-access requirements;
Ensures, within the scope of the position, that district and school web content is created, maintained, reviewed, and remediated in accordance with ADA Title II web-accessibility requirements and WCAG 2.1 Level AA, including applicable requirements for web content provided directly or through vendors or other arrangements;
Conducts recurring accessibility reviews and audits of district and school websites using automated tools, manual testing, keyboard-only navigation, screen-reader-informed practices, and other appropriate methods; documents findings and coordinates corrective action;
Reviews and remediates, or coordinates remediation of, accessibility issues involving headings, page structure, alternative text, color contrast, keyboard access, focus order, link text, forms, tables, embedded content, and other WCAG-related elements;
Establishes and communicates standards for accessible digital documents and media posted to district and school websites, including PDFs, Microsoft Office files, online forms, images, audio, and video; supports appropriate use of tags, reading order, alternative text, captions, transcripts, and other accessibility features;
Works with departments and schools to identify, prioritize, remediate, replace, archive, or remove inaccessible, outdated, duplicative, or unsupported web content consistent with applicable law, district procedures, and records requirements;
Reviews third-party website tools, embedded services, vendor-provided web content, and related digital services for accessibility considerations; collaborates with Technology, Purchasing, Communications, and vendors to address accessibility concerns and obtain accessibility documentation when appropriate;
Develops and delivers professional learning, job aids, templates, checklists, and ongoing support for employees who create or publish web content, with emphasis on accessible content creation and district web standards;
Provides consultation and technical assistance to schools and departments regarding website design, page organization, accessible content, navigation, publishing, and effective digital communication;
Coordinates with Communications and district leadership to support accurate, timely, and consistent publication of district news, announcements, calendars, emergency information, public notices, and other high-priority website content as assigned;
Works with responsible district departments and program coordinators to support timely publication and maintenance of required notices, nondiscrimination information, accessibility information, coordinator contact information, policies, forms, reports, and other required public-facing content;
Monitors website quality and performance, including broken links, outdated pages, accessibility issues, page errors, search functionality, analytics, traffic trends, and other indicators; uses findings to recommend improvements;
Maintains website templates, design components, reusable content blocks, navigation conventions, and branding elements to promote a consistent and professional user experience across district and school sites;
Collaborates with Technology staff on website security, authentication, integrations, domain-related needs, backups, system updates, incident response, and technical troubleshooting within assigned responsibilities;
Manages the official school district and school-level social media profiles. Serves as primary contact for school-level social media managers, providing ongoing technical support, guidance, and training.
Protects confidential and personally identifiable information and follows FERPA, applicable privacy requirements, copyright requirements, Board policy, and district procedures when publishing or supporting the publication of web content;
Develops and maintains written website governance procedures, accessibility procedures, publishing standards, content-owner expectations, and documentation necessary for consistent district-wide website management;
Maintains records of accessibility reviews, identified issues, remediation efforts, training, vendor communications, and other documentation needed to demonstrate ongoing accessibility and website-governance efforts;
Stays current on changes to ADA Title II web-accessibility requirements, WCAG standards, Section 504 guidance, web technologies, CMS features, cybersecurity practices, digital communications, and emerging educational technology trends and applies relevant changes to district procedures;
Collaborates with other Educational Technology Coordinators on district initiatives, professional learning, digital-resource implementation, strategic planning, and technology support when needed;
Regular, dependable, in-person attendance is an essential function of this position. The employee must be physically present at the assigned work location during scheduled work hours to perform duties, collaborate with staff, provide support, and carry out job responsibilities;
Complies with Board policies, administrative regulations, applicable federal and Tennessee law, district technology and security procedures, accessibility requirements, and professional standards; and
Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires frequent use of computers and other digital devices; prolonged periods of sitting and viewing screens; regular walking, standing, reaching, handling equipment, talking, hearing, and seeing; and occasional travel among district and school locations. The position may require lifting or carrying laptops, monitors, audiovisual equipment, supplies, or other objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds, with appropriate assistance used when needed.

WORK CONDITIONS

District office, school, meeting, training, and technology-support environments with regular use of computers and digital systems and periodic travel among district locations. The position involves frequent interaction with employees and vendors, changing priorities and deadlines, responsibility for public-facing digital content, and occasional time-sensitive website updates or troubleshooting.
