Position Title: School Social Worker / Substance Abuse Counselor

Reports To: Building Administration

Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Social Work

Current LMSW, LCSW, or LCPC licensure (with expectation of progression to independent licensure, if applicable)

Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff, families, and community partners

Position Summary:

The School Social Worker/Substance Abuse Counselor provides comprehensive social, emotional, behavioral, and substance use support services to students in grades PK-12. This position includes direct counseling, consultation, and collaboration with staff and families, as well as coordination with community agencies to support student success.

Performance Responsibilities:

Provide individual and group counseling services to address students' social, emotional, behavioral, and substance-related needs

Deliver classroom and small group instruction to support social-emotional learning and prevention programming

Provide crisis intervention and support as needed

Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with applicable laws and ethical standards

Collaborate with families to promote understanding, engagement, and access to appropriate resources

Consult and collaborate with teachers, educational technicians, administrators, and related service providers to support student success

Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement intervention plans

Assist in determining when referrals to outside agencies are appropriate and coordinate those referrals

Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies, including mental health and substance use service providers

Conduct classroom observations to support student needs when appropriate

Assist students with school adjustment and promote positive behavior and engagement

Support staff in understanding the individual needs of students and families

Interpret relevant evaluations or diagnoses to staff on a "need-to-know" basis

Maintain accurate, confidential case records and documentation

Participate in school-based committees (e.g., attendance teams, MTSS-B, student support teams)

Provide casework services to students and families to reduce barriers to educational and social progress

Support the implementation of best practices in social work, counseling, and prevention programming

Adhere to professional ethical standards (e.g., NASW, ASCA)

Perform additional duties as assigned by administration

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical activities. The position may also require lifting, pushing, or pulling (approximately 25-75 pounds depending on student needs).

Terms of Employment:

Salary, work year, and working conditions will be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policies and administrative procedures.
