Special Education Teacher
Location: RSU 57 - Lyman, Maine
Reports To: Director & Assistant Director of Special Education, Building Administrators

Position Overview
RSU 57 is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality instructional, diagnostic, and consultative services to students with special needs. The teacher will develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), collaborate with staff and families, and support the academic, behavioral, and social growth of all learners.

Qualifications
Current Maine Teacher Certification appropriate for grade level and specialty area

Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree preferred

Prior teaching experience preferred

Key Responsibilities
Conduct evaluations and assessments to identify students requiring special education services

Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs

Maintain accurate records, including lesson plans, evaluation reports, IEPs, and transition plans

Provide consultative and supportive services to teachers, parents, and staff

Participate in student teams, IEP meetings, and other district-level meetings

Collaborate with consultants, counselors, and agency representatives as appropriate

Supervise Educational Technicians as assigned

Stay current with special education regulations, instructional strategies, and assistive technology

Terms of Employment
Salary, work year, and conditions are established by the RSU 57 School Board. Performance will be evaluated according to district policy.

Physical Requirements
Position may require sitting, standing, walking, lifting (25-75 lbs depending on student), bending, kneeling, and other physical tasks as necessary. Reasonable accommodations are provided for individuals with disabilities.
