Reports To: Campus LeaderWork Location: JH Knox Intermediate, Salisbury, NCFLSA Status: Exempt 10-month employee

Position Purpose

The School Counselor supports the academic, social-emotional, and personal growth of all students by providing direct counseling, proactive SEL support, and guidance programming aligned with Knox's mission: Engaged Today. Transforming Tomorrow.
As a member of the Wellness & Belonging Team, the Counselor helps ensure that every student feels known, supported, and prepared to navigate both challenges and opportunities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
    • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support student emotional health, relationships, and problem-solving.
    • Partner with teachers to embed SEL lessons and restorative practices into daily instruction and Student Strong Start.
    • Facilitate classroom lessons that promote belonging, resilience, and career awareness.
    • Collaborate with the school administration and SEL-Wellness Coach to design and monitor Tier 1-2 supports for student well-being.
    • Support families with resources, referrals, and consultation related to academic and emotional needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and confidentiality in compliance with district and state standards.
Qualifications
    • Master's Degree in School Counseling.
    • Valid North Carolina K-12 School Counselor License.
    • Demonstrated success supporting middle grades students' academic and emotional growth.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
