The Kittery School District is currently seeking an Early Childhood Special Education Coordinator and Instructional Strategist for the 2026/27 school year. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working in special education programming k-3 or k-12, with pre-k experience a plus but not a requirement. They will also have experience acting as an LEA for IEP meetings and a general knowledge of procedural compliance with IDEA. This person will be well versed in special education documentation and be prepared to support staff throughout the process. Additionally, this individual will have experience working within and developing early elementary specialized programs (ie functional life skills, behavior, and resource settings). They will be prepared to offer curriculum and instructional support to staff in regard to big picture programmatic needs as well as strategize around specific student needs. An understanding of positive behavior support plan development, data IEP goal development, collection methods, MTSS systems and evaluation procedures will be beneficial. Position responsibilities include:
Facilitates IEP meetings for all 3, 4, and 5 year olds with IEPs in Preschool programming.
Ensures IEP/evals/meeting timeline compliance for 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
Acts as liaison between the Kittery School District and outside providers (ie CDS, contracted providers, other district PreK programs, etc.)
Provide coaching to special educators within pre k and early childhood programs regarding instructional strategies, program development, evaluations, behavior plans, classroom management
Provide direct support to staff regarding students with particularly challenging needs
