Job Description
The Principal of Newington Public School provides visionary and instructional leadership for a small, community-centered school serving students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The Principal is an active participant in a high-quality educational program that supports academic achievement, fosters a positive and inclusive school culture, and strengthens strong partnerships with families and the broader Newington community.
As the instructional leader of a PK-6 environment, the Principal promotes developmentally appropriate practices, supports early childhood through upper elementary learning, and leads continuous improvement efforts that reflect the unique needs of students and staff. The Principal upholds the mission and values of SAU 50 while ensuring alignment with district and state expectations.
Qualifications
Education & Certification
*Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field
*Valid New Hampshire Principal or School Administrator certification
Experience
*Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience (PK-6 or elementary preferred)
*Demonstrated leadership experience in school or district-level roles
*Proven ability to supervise and evaluate instructional staff
*Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
*Strong knowledge of early childhood and elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
*Experience with data-informed decision-making to support student growth
*Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
*Demonstrated commitment to inclusive practices and equitable learning environments
*Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and community members in a small-school setting
Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
*Lead, develop, monitor, and evaluate instructional programs aligned with New Hampshire state standards and best practices for PK-6 learners
*Supervise and evaluate teachers and support staff in accordance with district procedures
*Support professional learning focused on early literacy, numeracy, and whole-child development
*Use student data to guide instructional decisions and school improvement efforts

*Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing school climate that supports the developmental needs of young learners
*Promote high expectations for student behavior, engagement, and academic growth
*Support social-emotional learning and student well-being
*A commitment to being "on the ground," including regular participation in recess duty, bus loading, and classroom coverage to maintain school continuity.
Staff Supervision & Development
*Recruit, hire, and retain high-quality educators and support staff
*Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and evaluation
*Promote collaboration through team structures and professional learning communities
*Family & Community Engagement
*Build strong partnerships with families and maintain open, transparent communication
*Engage community members and local organizations as partners in student learning
*Represent the school at district and community events
*Acting as the primary point of contact for local town departments (Police, Fire, DPW), often serving as the direct coordinator for building maintenance, fire drills and safety projects.
Operations & Management
*Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, budgeting, safety, and facilities coordination
*Willingness to provide "all-hands-on-deck" support, which may include assisting with unexpected facility needs, lunch needs, *supervising unconventional spaces, or coordinating emergency logistics in the absence of specialized staff.
*Lead school safety planning and emergency preparedness
School Improvement & Accountability
*Lead development, implementation, and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan
*Use data and stakeholder input to refine goals and strategies
*Provide regular updates to the Superintendent and School Board
