Director of Student Concerns (Attendance, Transfers, & Family Support)
SALARY:
To be determined by the district's Director Salary Schedule (Scale 130)
DEPARTMENT:District OfficeLENGTH OF CONTRACT:245 daysQUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree or higher (Educational Leadership/Administration, School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field)Valid South Carolina educator certification (e.g., School Administrator, Principal, or District-level certification)A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role at the school or district levelDemonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: Attendance/Truancy, Student Support/MTSS, School administration, Student discipline procedures, Student transfer process, family engagement, and Collaboration with external agencies (DSS, DJJ, courts, law enforcement, and mental health providers)Other alternatives to the above as determined by the Board
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:Superintendent or DesigneeJOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Services will serve as the district's centralized authority for student and family-facing processes, ensuring consistency, compliance, equity, and timely resolution across all schools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides districtwide oversight of attendance monitoring, intervention, and truancy prevention systemsSupervises/oversees Student Services Coordinators and attendance staffReviews truancy cases, including documentation, compliance, and timelinesCoordinates DSS referrals, DJJ requests, Family Court packets, and court referralsCollaborates with school administrators to implement proactive attendance interventionsAnalyzes attendance data to identify trends, risk factors, and early warning indicatorsServes as the primary point of escalation for complex student and parent concernsEnsures timely, equitable, and transparent resolution of concernsSupports schools and departments in responding to sensitive or high-impact casesStrengthens family communication by providing consistent processes and expectationsProvides oversight of all student transfer requests, ensuring consistency, equity, and complianceCoordinates transfer reviews, decisions, and documentationProvides oversight of appeals related to transfers, attendance, and student services decisionsEnsures interpreter and translation support is provided, as needed, for families during transfer requests and appeals processesProvides oversight of attendance, truancy, and student services hearingsSupervises the district Hearing OfficersReviews hearing outcomes and appeal processesEnsures adherence to district policy, state law, and due process requirementsEnsures interpreter services are consistently available for hearings and due process proceedings to support full participation of multilingual familiesServes as the district's Student and Family OmbudsmanAdvocates for fair processes while ensuring policy complianceFacilitates conflict resolution between families and schoolsPromotes trust, transparency, and accountability across student servicesProvides oversight of civil rights data collection related to attendance, discipline, and student servicesEnsures accurate documentation and reporting for audits and state/federal complianceMonitors equity in attendance, transfer, and disciplinary outcomesSupports continuous improvement through data-informed decision-makingPerforms other duties assigned by the Superintendent or Designee.
