Job Title: Secondary Bookkeeper

Supervisor(s): Principal

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Contract Days: 240 days

Job Summary: To provide support to school administration by maintaining accurate records of accounting transactions, ensuring that financial activities comply with district policies and procedures, applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and preparing reports for school administration and other stakeholders as required. Coordinates the implementation of accounting controls, administers school budgets and provides oversight of district systems.

Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Business or Accounting; or
    • 60 hours of financial coursework
    • 5 years of successful bookkeeping experience - governmental accounting experienced preferred

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames
  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate records
  • Detailed knowledge of bookkeeping duties and responsibilities
  • Must have typing and strong computer skills
  • Familiarity with standard office equipment
  • Ability to work with students, teachers, and the general public in a courteous manner
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as District Administration may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Must take an Office Basic Skills test

Essential Duties:
  • Performs bookkeeping responsibilities for the school keeping accounts according to Georgetown County School District policy with duties including, but not limited to, the following; counts and receipts all money collected at school which includes fundraisers, athletics, clubs, classes and departments
  • Monitors and reconciles all aspects of financial record keeping according to GCSD policies and procedures
  • Prepares/makes deposits; maintains petty cash account including monthly bank reconciliation; and processes for payment all accounts payable
  • Reconciles all accounts
  • Initiates and processes appropriate forms for the ordering of instructional, office, and other supplies in accordance with district procurement policies and procedures
  • Receives and verifies delivered materials and routes them appropriately
  • Processes all time sheets and makes sure they are sent to the District by the due date
  • Performs clerical duties including maintaining all financial records as prescribed by district policies and procedures
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed
