SUMMARY: Provides instructional leadership to staff. Is responsible for day-to-day building administration, and the safety and welfare of both students and staff activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary, and enforces school policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Demonstrates sound judgement and emotional stability.
•Maintains a positive attitude and works well with others.
•Ensures the safety of students.
•Interacts with staff, students and the community in a positive and respectful manner.
•Implements the curriculum as defined in the course of study approved by the Board of Education.
•Participates in the development of the district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
•Establishes priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with allowable anticipated funds.
•Supervises and evaluates the instructional program.
•Works with staff and others to improve the curriculum and the instructional program.
•Keeps current of educational research and practices that result in the utilization of the best instructional methods and materials.
•Encourages teaching staff to utilize community resources in the instructional program.
•Selects and assigns certificated and non-certificated staff with assistance from Central Office.
•Evaluates performance of instructional program and staff.
•Communicates with staff on a regular basis.
•Assigns staff special duties as required.
•Oversees attendance, conduct, health and safety of pupils, and encourages each individual to perform at his/her highest level.
•Assigns pupils within the building.
•Develops and supports standards for student conduct and discipline in accordance with Board policy and school law.
•Provides for accurate recording and reporting of pupil progress and achievement.
•Facilitates efforts to assist pupils who exhibit learning, behavior and/or attendance problems.
•Works and communicates with Central Office personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of school facilities.
•Supervises staff for the care and cleaning of the school building and grounds.
•Complies with laws and regulations pertaining to the health and safety of students and staff.
•Plans and implements the daily work schedule of staff.
•Implements policy changes from the Board or the State and Federal level at the building level.
•Participates in the development of and prepares the school budget; works on purchasing.
•Maintains appropriate certification.
•Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Manages employees in the elementary school. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Master's Degree in Education.
•Five years of teaching experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
•Valid Elementary Principal License is required.
