Description: Behavior Interventionist

Job Summary:
  • Assist with the development the school's behavior intervention program
  • Work directly with students to establish behavioral goals
  • Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents
  • Monitor the Behavior Intervention Program within the classroom
  • Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions with students
  • Provide students with behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice
  • Serve as a resource to provide formal and informal training, supervision, guidance and assistance to students, educators, parents, service providers and agencies, as needed
  • Collect data via direct student observation and consultation with classroom teachers regarding student behaviors and recommend appropriate instructional modifications to support positive student behavior
  • Consult with administrators, mental health professionals, teachers and parents, and serve as an integral member of the School Intervention team
  • Attend meetings and parent conferences, as needed
  • Plan and oversee the development and implementation of parenting activities
  • Facilitate team meetings with identified parents, students, and teachers for the purpose of designing Behavior interventions Plans
  • Engage parents in the "student behavior intervention plan" process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.
  • Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals, teaching methods, and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understandings
  • Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions

Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree with a combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant must have proficient computer skills; knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.

Working Conditions: This position takes place in a school setting. Must be willing to work with teachers, students, parents and administrators as a means to reach positive outcomes with students.
