QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess extensive knowledge and experience in custodial operations, including cleaning standards, procedures, and quality control across large-scale facilities. Must have a college degree or technical training in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or significant and relevant direct experience. Demonstrated experience managing large, multi-site service operations (custodial, grounds, waste, or logistics). Must possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of employees, administrators, contractors, and stakeholders. Working knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, waste management systems, and service delivery models is preferred.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Facilities Services is responsible for the leadership, management, and oversight of district-wide service operations, with a primary focus on custodial services supporting over 3 million square feet of facilities. This position ensures that all schools and support facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained through effective management of custodial programs, refuse and recycling services, grounds maintenance, and internal support services such as moving and courier operations.

This role supports the Director of Facilities in delivering high-quality, efficient, and responsive services that directly impact the daily operations and appearance of all district properties.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Custodial Services (Primary Responsibility):
Directs and manages the district-wide custodial program to ensure consistent cleanliness standards across all facilities. Develops, implements, and monitors custodial procedures, schedules, and quality assurance programs. Supervises custodial staffing models, assignments, and performance expectations across all schools and facilities. Conducts routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with district cleanliness and safety standards. Coordinates training programs for custodial staff on cleaning techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols. Oversees procurement, inventory, and cost control of custodial supplies and equipment. Works closely with school administrators to address site-specific custodial needs and concerns.
Refuse and Recycling Services:
Manages district-wide solid waste, recycling, and refuse collection services. Coordinates with external vendors to ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective waste removal services. Monitors contracts, service levels, and vendor performance. Ensures compliance with all applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
Grounds Services:
Assists in the oversight and coordination of district grounds maintenance, including landscaping, turf management, and campus appearance. Coordinates with internal staff and contractors to maintain high standards for all exterior areas, including athletic and recreational spaces. Supports planning and execution of seasonal and long-term grounds improvement initiatives.
Moving and Courier Services:
Oversees district-wide moving services, including furniture relocation, classroom moves, and event setup support. Manages courier operations to ensure efficient and reliable delivery of materials and supplies between district locations. Develops and implements systems for scheduling, tracking, and prioritizing service requests.
Operations & Administration:
Assists the Director of Facilities in developing and managing budgets related to custodial, waste, grounds, and service operations. Maintains accurate records and prepares reports related to service performance, staffing, and operational efficiency. Analyzes service delivery data to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall quality. Supports procurement processes, contract development, and vendor negotiations.
Leadership & Support:
Supervises, evaluates, and provides leadership to assigned staff, including service supervisors and support personnel. Promotes a culture of accountability, safety, and high-quality customer service. Responds to service-related concerns from school administrators and resolves issues in a timely manner. Assists in emergency response efforts related to facility operations and service delivery. Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to perform tasks involving considerable walking, lifting, reaching, climbing, stooping, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Must be able to frequently lift 1050 lbs. and occasionally move up to 100 lbs. Work may involve both indoor and outdoor environments under varying conditions.
