Job Description
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking an experienced and dedicated special education teacher to join our crew in Sturbridge, MA. We are looking for a skilled educator who brings deep knowledge of special education law and practice, writes strong IEPs, and knows how to build a team around a student. We welcome culturally competent candidates with experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students across a range of disability categories. We welcome candidates who reflect the cultural diversity of our community.
Who We Are
Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is an EL Education school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, providing students with rigorous, real-world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing environment. Our students don't just read about history and science - they live it, right on the grounds of one of the most extraordinary living history museums in the country. We are distinguished by four key elements of EL Education: a commitment to community, a commitment to high-quality work, a commitment to real-world applications, and a commitment to imagination, exploration, and immersion. At OSA, we believe we are crew, not passengers - and every member of our team shows up fully for our students and each other.
We want to be honest with prospective candidates: this is energizing, demanding work. Our school day is longer than a traditional district schedule, our expectations are high, and we ask everyone on our team to go beyond the boundaries of a job description when students need it. Special education at OSA is not a peripheral function - it is core to who we are. If that excites you, you'll fit right in.

Write clear, legally compliant, and educationally meaningful IEPs that reflect each student's individual strengths, needs, and goals
Implement IEPs with fidelity across both inclusion and pull-out settings, ensuring that accommodations and modifications are consistently applied

Use data - including DIBELS, iReady, MCAS, and progress monitoring tools - to inform instruction and track student growth
Apply evidence-based practices and interventions matched to individual student needs
Support students in developing the self-advocacy skills and learning strategies they will carry with them beyond OSA
Instructional Aide Leadership
Provide clear, ongoing direction and guidance to instructional aides working with students on your caseload
Build aides' capacity to support students effectively and consistently, both in and out of the classroom
Model best practices for working with students with disabilities and give constructive, specific feedback to paraprofessional staff
Foster a team approach to student support where aides feel informed, valued, and equipped
Collaboration and Community
Partner with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families as a core member of each student's team
Communicate proactively and compassionately with families, centering their knowledge of their child and building trust across cultural and linguistic differences
Contribute to school-wide culture and initiatives, bringing the same investment to the broader OSA community as to your caseload
Take on responsibilities beyond your direct role as needed, showing up as a flexible and mission-aligned member of our crew
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Master's degree in Special Education preferred
Massachusetts DESE license in Special Education (or eligibility for licensure)
Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement (or willingness to obtain)

Experience supervising, directing, or mentoring paraprofessionals or instructional aides
Comfort using data to drive instruction and monitor IEP goal progress
Experience working with English Language Learners and students across a range of disability categories
A collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and the ability to build trust with families, colleagues, and students
