SUMMARY:To provide mentoring, staff development, support and related tasks for the cooks and cafeteria managers of Berkeley County Schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIESServe as a mentor for all new food service staff and cafeteria managers, food service staff needing additional support and food services staff needing support through an improvement plan.
Assist the Department of Child Nutrition on training needs in order to develop and implement training for food service staff in the appropriate procedures for ordering supplies and commodities.
Assist the Department of Child Nutrition in preparation of materials for workshops, presentations, and staff development.
Assist in the development of a comprehensive professional development plan and identify and provide training opportunities for food service staff throughout the year.
Receive telephone calls, make appointments, and maintain calendar for the tasks of the job.
Provide general and expert information to the cooks and cafeteria managers of all schools.
Handle all correspondence for email, letters, and phone calls.
Maintain general information and files that efficiently affects the job.
Assist the Executive Director of Child Nutrition in preparation of materials for workshops and presentations.
Print reports from WVEIS, Safe Schools and other software as needed.
Prepare, create, develop staff development and deliver such staff development to target audiences.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance.
Maintain a neat and professional work environment.
Substitute for absent cooks, cafeteria manager staff throughout the school district as requested by Executive Director of Child Nutrition.
Attend meetings or handle situations outside normal work hours. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and locations.
Assist with communication, training, and other matters in kitchens throughout the school district.
Attend professional development sessions as requested by Executive Director of Child Nutrition
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Child Nutrition.
QUALIFICATIONSMeet employment standards for the position, including high school diploma and
classification of Cafeteria Manager. Prefer a minimum of four years experience as a
Cafeteria Manager.
Demonstrated proficiency in, Adobe Contribute, Microsoft office 2013 including: Word, Excel, Power Point, Safe Schools, Primero, and other software applications as needed.
Demonstrated proficiency in file storage and retrieval of documents (both electronically and in printed form) such as WVEIS attendance reports for cooks and cafeteria managers, Primero food program, and other relevant software.
Ability to work well under stress and maintain flexibility.
Ability to listen and follow directions.
Demonstrates initiative, works well independently; able to prioritize assignments.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
Must possess excellent communication skills, including ability to converse in a positive and effective manner.

Position: CAFETERIA MANAGERSUMMARY:Responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, supervising and providing assistance in the provisioning, operation, and functions of a school cafeteria.

- Assigns, directs, plans, and supervises the work of all cafeteria employees.
- Directs and assists in the preparation of food portions and prepares for the serving of all food in the cafeteria.
- Directs sanitation procedures.
- Inspects the kitchen, cooking and mixing utensils, and employees for cleanliness and sanitary purposes.
- Plans, directs, and supervises cleaning schedules for the eating area of the cafeteria.
- Assumes responsibility for the requisition & security of food and supplies.
- Assumes responsibility for the making requisition for repairs of equipment.
- Instructs new (and substitute) cafeteria employees in performing their assigned tasks.
- Performs related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.
- Orders food through the central food service office so the school's nutritional offerings follow the county developed menus and serving portions as required by food guidelines.
- Correctly completes, in a timely manner, and keeps reports and documents pertinent to food services.
- Performs related work as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma. Have or obtain a valid sanitation certification issued by the local health department. Must successfully complete any the manager training class/staff development and successfully performed responsibilities as an on the job manager.

Job Description: Cook III
Summary"Cook III" means personnel employed to prepare and serve meals, make reports prepare requisitions for supplies, order equipment and repairs for a food service program of a school system. WV §18A-4-8. A cook performs responsible cooking and baking duties, following nutritionally sound menus and may be assigned inventory, record keeping, computer input responsibilities. The cook may assume additional duties in the absence of the Cafeteria Manager. Positions in this class require specific training and the ability to do quantity cooking and/or baking. After initial orientation, work is performed with minimum supervision. Nature of the work requires moderate physical effort, continuous standing and use of commercial food service equipment.
