Job Description General Definition of WorkThe plumber II, under general supervision, performs skill-based work with minimal decision-making discretion performing skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance and repair of district plumbing systems and components. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the maintenance & operations supervisor II.

Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Maintain all plumbing systems within CMS according to the state and local code enforcement requirements; collaborate with Mecklenburg County departments of code enforcement, health and environmental health and the NC department of environment and natural resources
- Respond to broken and clogged sewer and drain lines, inspect grease traps, sewer lift pumps and their stations
- Respond to operational emergencies affecting cafeteria services, broken water heaters, frozen pipes, broken water lines and gas leaks; evaluate situation and take proper corrective action
- Review blueprints, drawings and specifications for new construction and renovations to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, waste and drainage systems and required tools and equipment
- Measure, cut, thread, assemble and install pipe, tubing and gas lines
- Plan daily activities, complete paperwork, conduct truck inspection and stock inventory; evaluate a weekly open work order backlog
- Manage P-card budget, purchase order requests and payments, vehicle mileage records, supply requests and vehicle repair
- Maintain and repair gas lines downstream of meter
- Maintain and repair mixing valves and irrigation systems
- Operate specialized machinery and tools utilized in repair and maintenance of all plumbing and plumbing systems
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures
- Act as team leader by training, coaching and counseling and scheduling hours of employees; provide input regarding performance evaluations and promotions
- Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policies
- Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Knowledge and understanding of plumbing codes and regulations; City, County, State Federal and other codes, laws and ordinances pertinent to plumbing work
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of pipefitting theory and techniques
- Knowledge of the work order procedures, credit card procedures, International Standard Organization (ISO) procedures, and other departmental procedures developed and implemented
- Knowledge of trade tools and of occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations pertaining to the trades
- Skilled in the application of pipefitting techniques
- Skilled in basic math and computers
- Ability to use materials and tools found in plumbing construction, maintenance and repair of gas, water, sewer and irrigation systems including cafeteria equipment and appliances plumbed with water or gas
- Ability to read blueprints, drawings and specifications and determine processes
- Ability to receive and follow instructions for repair, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, tools, equipment and vehicles
- Ability to read basic blueprints
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
- Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations

Education and Experience- High School diploma or equivalent with additional specialized/technical training or some college courses required
- Minimum of three (3) years commercial or five (5) years residential related experience in the plumbing field required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
