Position Overview
Bowling Green City Schools is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Director of Transportation to support the administration of district-wide pupil transportation services. This role assists in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation operations, including routing, driver training, and fleet maintenance.

The Assistant Director plays a key role in maintaining operational accuracy, supporting staff, and ensuring services align with district expectations and all applicable state and federal regulations.

Compensation & Schedule
Salary Range: $52,000.00 - $64,000.00 / annually

  • Work Schedule: Normal business hours Monday - Friday; must be available for evenings/weekends and
  • emergency response as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Operations Support
  • Assist in administering district-wide pupil transportation services
  • Develop and maintain bus routes, schedules, and driver assignments
  • Ensure accuracy of student transportation rosters and records
  • Coordinate non-routine transportation (field trips, athletics, special requests)
  • Support services for students with disabilities in collaboration with district staff

Compliance & Safety
  • Monitor driver qualifications, licensing, and required training
  • Support compliance with Ohio and federal safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, PERRA, MSDS)
  • Assist with accident investigations and documentation
  • Promote and support bus safety programs and emergency evacuation drills
  • Report suspected child abuse in accordance with Ohio law

Fleet & Maintenance Coordination
  • Assist in administering vehicle maintenance programs and repair tracking
  • Monitor inventory levels and procurement accuracy
  • Participate in Ohio State Highway Patrol bus inspections
  • Support bid processes, vendor coordination, and contract compliance

Administrative & Operational Support
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with district policy and state retention laws
  • Assist in preparing reports, purchase orders, and equipment inventories
  • Monitor weather and road conditions and communicate operational needs
  • Support transportation staff scheduling and coverage during absences
  • Respond to transportation-related emergencies as needed

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (post-secondary training in transportation field preferred)
  • Eligible for or able to obtain Ohio Pupil Transportation Certification
  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Clear criminal background check in accordance with Ohio law
  • Meets all mandated health requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in school transportation or logistics coordination
  • Familiarity with transportation routing software
  • Experience supporting compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Strong organizational and data management skills

Supervisory Responsibility

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, assists in supervising and evaluating assigned staff in accordance with board policy, administrative regulations, and contractual agreements.
