Position OverviewThe Media and Technology Assistant (MATA) supports the school's library media program and technology infrastructure to promote student achievement and engagement. The MATA assists the Media Coordinator in managing the School Library Media Center through instructional, technical, and clerical support while helping maintain an organized, welcoming, and innovative learning environment.
This position requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively while balancing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced educational setting.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Professional Conduct- Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Support the school's Media and Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC).
- Uphold ethical standards and maintain confidentiality.
- Adapt to change and respond positively to feedback and supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service and attention to detail.
Learning Environment Support- Help maintain an organized, accessible, and welcoming library media center.
- Create displays, bulletin boards, seasonal decorations, and promotional materials.
- Assist with book fairs and special events.
- Shelve and organize library materials.
- Assist students and staff in locating print and digital resources.
- Support scheduling, equipment use, and media center organization.
- Assist with cataloging and processing new print and digital materials.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, flyers, and instructional resources.
- Supervise and support student media helpers.
Device Management & Technology Support- Provide Tier 1 troubleshooting for student and staff devices.
- Assist with technology support requests and help desk tickets.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Support setup and operation of classroom and presentation technology, including:
- Laptops
- Projectors
- Document cameras
- Interactive display panels
- Audio/visual equipment
- Utilize platforms such as:
- Google Workspace
- Destiny Library Manager
- One to One Plus
- Maintain accurate records and communicate using digital tools.
Instructional Support- Assist the Media Coordinator in planning and implementing instructional activities.
- Support library lessons, small-group instruction, and literacy initiatives.
- Monitor and engage students in the media center.
- Assist with circulation procedures and reporting.
- Pull and prepare instructional materials for classroom use.
- Promote reading, information literacy, and digital citizenship.
- Provide instructional and student support outside the media center for up to 20% of the workweek (approximately 7 hours per week).
Professional Growth- Participate in professional learning opportunities related to media and technology.
- Apply new learning to support school and program goals.
- Collaborate with the Media Coordinator to continuously improve services and support student success.
- Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning.
QualificationsRequired:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong technology skills and proficiency with digital tools.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred:
- Associate's degree.
- Experience working in a school or educational setting.
- Experience with library media services, technology support, or educational technology systems.
Work Environment- School-based position requiring movement throughout the media center and classrooms.
- Daily interaction with students, staff, and families.
- Frequent use of computers, educational technology, and audio/visual equipment.
