Behavior Specialist - Elementary & Middle Schools

Job Goal: To develop, share, and implement behavior intervention plans and FBAs to assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment for students to learn and support overall student success.

Requirements: A minimum of 2 years experience with at-risk youth, preferably in a school setting Bachelor's degree and DESE certification required.

Essential Functions:
  • Collaborates with staff and students to develop individual behavioral supports, safety plans, etc.
  • Design, implements, and engages in de-escalation strategies with students who display behavioral needs in the school setting
  • Provides academic assistance both inside the classroom, and individually as needed and related to behavioral interventions
  • Works with all 5 elementary and 3 middle schools to support students, develop plans, and align practices
  • Assists with debriefing situations as appropriate
  • Provides additional student supports when requested
  • Supervises students during lunch and maintains a calm environment
  • Collects data on students' progress and adjusts plans as needed
  • Collaborates with teachers to help students achieve their maximum potential
  • Reports illegal activities, questionable or unsafe conditions or problems with security to the administration/designee.
  • Recommends improvements in security and safety of the facilities to the administration/designee
  • Evaluates the interactions in a given situation and provides assistance if necessary
  • Assists in resolving conflicts and similar problem situations between students
  • Assists with implementing school wide student management plan and incentive programs.
  • Assists with transition discussions between grade levels, buildings, hospital back to school, etc.
  • Develops and maintains positive internal lines of communication between students and staff
  • Develops and maintains positive external lines of communication with parents, visitors, community agencies, and other public agencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of de-escalation technique for at-risk students
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Safety Care trained preferred
  • Knowledge of restorative justice practices and PBIS culture and development
  • Data collection and analysis

FY26 Salary range: $64,004 - $108,744
