Position Title: Special Education Teacher - Reading
Location: Galvin Middle School

Summary:
Wakefield Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Special Education Teacher for a position at Galvin Middle School. This role requires expertise in reading development, structured literacy instruction, assessment, progress monitoring, and data-driven decision making. The teacher will provide direct intervention services, collaborate with educators and families, and support students in developing the reading skills necessary for academic success.

Qualifications:
  • Valid DESE Special Education Teacher license required
  • Wilson certification required

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and small-group reading intervention using evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal reading assessments.
  • Conduct reading evaluations and prepare written reports for special education eligibility and reevaluation meetings.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals and objectives.
  • Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
  • Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to support student literacy development.
  • Participate in Team meetings and contribute to educational planning and decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, services, and progress.
  • Serve as a literacy resource for staff and support the implementation of effective reading instruction across the school.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in reading instruction and literacy development.

Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: commensurate with Wakefield's Unit A salary scale; $63,302 to $119,318 Per Year
