Job Description Come work a half mile from the ocean and make a real difference in kids' lives.Jameson Elementary is a tight-knit PreK2 school of 165 students nestled along the coast of southern Maine: 15 minutes from Portland, and steps from the Atlantic Ocean. We're looking for a dynamic, relationship-driven
Dean of Students who believes every child deserves a champion in their corner.
This is more than a behavior management role. It's a launching pad. If you've got your eye on school administration, this position gives you hands-on experience alongside a supportive leadership team, and a front-row seat to one of the most impactful careers in the world.
Why This Role? You'll be a key connector between: students, families, teachers, and support staff, helping our youngest learners build the habits, skills, and confidence they need to thrive. No two days look alike, and that's exactly the point.
And the momentum is real: academic test scores are on the rise, student attendance is at an all-time high, and we have a strong, engaged district PTO. This means you'll have genuine community support behind everything you do. This is a school that's heading in the right direction, and we're looking for someone to help us keep the momentum going!
This position is part of the RSU 23 Education Association's Collective Bargaining Agreement. https://rsu23.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/25_28RSU23_Teacher_Contract_Signed.pdf
You're the Right Fit If You- Lead with relationships first and see behavior as communication, not defiance
- Know your way around restorative practices
- Can hold firm boundaries and warm hearts at the same time
- Thrive in a variable schedule and treat ambiguity as an opportunity
- Are ready to knock on a door, make a call, or sit on the floor with a 6-year-old, or do whatever the moment calls for
- Have your eye on administration and want real experience to get there
CertificationAny valid Maine State teaching, counseling, or administrative certification is accepted. An
040 or 045 administrative certification (or active pursuit of one) is preferred but if you're the right person, we want to hear from you. Valid Driver's License required.
What You'll Actually Do:For Students: Build relationships that make school feel safe. Develop and implement behavior plans, support social-emotional growth, and use a mix of push-in and pull-out models to meet kids where they are. Conduct home visits when needed to support attendance.
For Staff: Be the go-to resource for classroom management, Tier 1 and Tier 2 behavioral and SEL interventions, and the BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks) model. Coach teachers, not just respond to referrals.
For Families: Serve as a trusted liaison, through meetings, home visits, social media, and every channel in between. Parents should feel like you're on their team, because you are.
For the School: Track and analyze behavior and attendance data to spot trends early. Help maintain records in compliance with applicable laws and district policy. Pitch in on bus duty, recess, lunch, and drop-off, because culture is built in the hallways, not just the office.
What We're Looking For:- Knowledge of best practices in Pre-K2 instruction and development
- Familiarity with the BARR model
- Understanding of student discipline law, bullying, and harassment regulations
- Strong verbal and written communication
- A genuine belief that every kid can turn it around, and the patience to prove it
