Position Summary The Vice Principal serves as a key instructional and operational leader at Stoneham High School, supporting the Principal in fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing learning environment. The Vice Principal is responsible for overseeing the development and management of the school's master schedule, leading student discipline and attendance systems, supporting staff and student success, and maintaining a strong and visible presence throughout the school community, including athletic, extracurricular, and community events.
Essential Responsibilities Master Scheduling and School Operations- Lead the design, development, implementation, and annual revision of the school's master schedule.
- Collaborate with department leaders, counselors, special education staff, and administrators to ensure equitable access to courses and programs.
- Analyze enrollment trends, staffing allocations, graduation requirements, and student needs to optimize scheduling decisions.
- Manage course requests, student placements, scheduling conflicts, and programmatic adjustments throughout the school year.
- Oversee scheduling software and related data systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Coordinate state testing schedules, final examinations, and other school-wide operational calendars.
- Assist the Principal in long-range planning related to staffing, enrollment projections, and program expansion.
Student Discipline and School Climate- Lead the implementation of student discipline policies consistent with district procedures and Massachusetts regulations.
- Investigate and resolve student behavioral concerns using restorative and progressive discipline practices.
- Work collaboratively with students, families, counselors, teachers, and support personnel to address behavioral and attendance issues.
- Maintain accurate disciplinary records and ensure timely communication with students and families.
- Develop and implement proactive interventions designed to improve student behavior, engagement, and school climate.
- Support student attendance initiatives and oversee interventions for chronic absenteeism and tardiness.
- Assist in crisis response, threat assessment, and emergency management procedures.
Visibility, Student Engagement, and Community Presence- Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the school day in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, arrival and dismissal areas, and other student gathering spaces.
- Attend and actively support athletic contests, performing arts events, academic competitions, student activities, and community functions throughout the year.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, coaches, advisors, and community partners.
- Serve as an ambassador for Stoneham High School by promoting school pride, student achievement, and community engagement.
- Support advisors, coaches, and student organizations in creating meaningful extracurricular experiences for students.
- Represent the school at district and community events as assigned by the Principal.
Instructional Leadership- Support teacher supervision, evaluation, and professional growth in accordance with district and state requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty and leadership teams to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
- Assist in monitoring student achievement data and implementing strategies to support academic success.
- Participate in curriculum development, school improvement planning, and accreditation processes.
- Support initiatives related to equity, inclusion, social-emotional learning, and student wellness.
Family and Community Partnerships- Build strong partnerships with families through effective communication and responsiveness.
- Facilitate meetings with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders regarding student concerns and school initiatives.
- Collaborate with community agencies and organizations to support student needs and school programs.
Professional Responsibilities- Perform duties assigned by the Principal consistent with the role of Vice Principal
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Participate in district committees, professional learning, and leadership meetings
- Stay current with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices in secondary education
Qualifications- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
- Appropriate Massachusetts DESE licensure
- Successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the secondary level.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners.
Terms of Employment and compensation This position is covered by a collective bargaining unit agreement, which governs wages, work year, working conditions, benefits, evaluation procedures, and other terms of employment.
