IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Support Services
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 210 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by KCSBOE
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal and immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and KCS G48A.
JOB SUMMARY: To assist in the development, the delivery, the implementation and the evaluation of academic programs for special education students, provide consultative services to regular and special education teachers and support teachers in implementing content standards for special education students in regular and special education classrooms.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
Provide assistance to special and regular education teachers as they collaborate to meet the needs of special education students in all settings.Serve as the chairperson for IEP meetings at assigned schools.Develop initial IEP drafts for students who qualify.Update and maintain school class lists on a monthly basis.Monitor special education timelines and ensure meetings are held within the due date.Participate in MDET and eligibility meetings and assist in paperwork completion.Administer achievement evaluations, write reports identifying results, and explain information from the evaluation(s) at eligibility meetings.Assist in determining student's eligibility for special education based on Policy 2419 requirements.Monitor special education suspensions and conduct manifestation determination meetings as required.Collect IEP data as needed to determine student service needs.Provide staff development training for teachers on IEP creation and implementation.Work closely with new teachers and teachers on permit in completing special education paperwork. Work with school administration and Assistant Superintendent for Special Education in collecting data for additional special education TIRE staffing requests. Monitor teachers' schedules in regard to time allotments, IEP compliance, class size, classroom management, and student performance evaluation.Manage case manager assignments in the Online IEP system.Assume special project assignments
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Teacher Certification in LD, BD and ID
2). Master's degree in related field or pursuing masters degree certification.
3) At least three years of classroom teaching experience within the special education setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
