Position Summary

The Part Time Beginning Teacher Support Specialist provides mentoring, coaching, and professional support to beginning teachers. This position is designed to promote teacher effectiveness, increase teacher retention, and support the successful transition of new educators into the profession through individualized coaching, classroom support, and professional development.

Qualifications
  • Valid Virginia teaching license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in instructional practices and classroom management.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and coaching skills.
  • Experience mentoring teachers preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish positive professional relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a mentor and support resource for beginning teachers during their first three years of teaching.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide non-evaluative feedback.
  • Assist beginning teachers with lesson planning, instructional strategies, classroom management, and student engagement.
  • Support teachers in understanding curriculum standards, pacing guides, assessments, and instructional resources.
  • Facilitate goal setting and professional growth planning.
  • Provide guidance regarding school procedures, policies, and professional responsibilities.
  • Maintain regular communication with principals, instructional staff, and district leadership regarding support needs.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating Beginning Teacher Orientation and ongoing professional learning opportunities.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and classroom practices as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of mentoring activities, meetings, and support provided.
  • Attend required mentor and district meetings.
  • Perform other duties related to teacher induction and support as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel between schools within the division.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use technology for extended periods.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Coordinator of Human Resources and/or designated supervisor.

Work Schedule

Up to 20 hours per week during the school year, with additional hours available for New Teacher Orientation, mentor training, and summer onboarding activities as approved by the division.
