7:30am - 3:00pm - inclusive of 1/2 hour unpaid lunch

12 months per school year

The NYS HELPS (Hiring for Emergency Limited placement Program Statewide) is a NYS program that allows civil service agencies to hire qualified permanent employees quickly and without requiring them to take a competitive civil service exam. It was created to help agencies fill critical vacancies by streamlining the appointment process, though candidates must still meet all other minimum qualifications for the job.

Specific duties related to this position include but are not limited to:

  • Support all facets of the CPSE and CSE processes.
  • Attend CPSE or CSE meetings to take meeting minutes, send invitations, track consents, and distribute post-meeting paperwork, etc.
  • Coordinating, monitoring, and filing special education records, activities, and reporting.
  • Assisting with routine questions related to the office processes.
  • Responds to a variety of program-specific inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties for the purpose of providing information and facilitating communication among parties.
  • Data entry and maintenance of program data.
  • Organize, maintain, and complete Medicaid and STAC paperwork.
  • Process scripts for related services.

Preferred:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the community.
  • Exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Customer service and human relations skills in assisting and applying proper phone etiquette and discretion, working with the public and district personnel.
  • Efficient with word processing applications, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Must maintain confidentiality when addressing student and family concerns.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and strong organizational skills.
  • Work in a positive manner with the team in a high-paced work environment.
  • Previous school district experience preferred.
  • Flexibility.

Competitive Clerk Typist Civil Service Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing.

NOTE: Office clerical experience, including typing, may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Working knowledge of office terminology procedures, and equipment; working knowledge of business arithmetic and English; ability to type from clear copy or rough draft at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; neatness, tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff and business people;
  • Must have excellent phone etiquette skills;
  • Must have excellent organizational skills;
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent computer skills, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Detail oriented with proven experience in reviewing written info for grammatical and format errors;

  • Experience in assisting with the completion of comprehensive reports that are used for internal and external use;
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality;
  • Must be punctual, hardworking, dependable, flexible, patient, and friendly;
