Job Description QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid NYS certification in Secondary Special Education (Required)
- Valid NYS Certification or extension in ELA, Math, Social Studies or Science
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Oversight and Coordination of 15:1 Program
- Working in coordination with district and building administration in developing core components of the instructional program.
- Responsible for instruction special class 15:1 9th and 10th grade students. This includes creating a positive learning environment, developing long and short-range plans, implementing plans effectively, formative and summative assessment of student progress, and a number of administrative duties such as attendance, parent communication, etc.
ESSENTIAL CORE CHARACTERISTICS: - Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Common Core Standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and curriculum development including planning, implementation and evaluation of materials, supplies and lessons.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective classroom management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of all ability levels, as well as modification of material for student growth
- Demonstrated evidence of the ability to reflect and contemplate on one's teaching allowing for growth and excellence.
- Demonstrated evidence to use data and assessment tools to identify needs, assess student progress and performance, plan instruction to improve performance and achievement of all learners.
- Demonstrated evidence of optimism, enthusiasm, compassion, warmth, understanding and sensitivity to all students.
- Demonstrated evidence to maintain high levels of student engagement.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective communication with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
- Demonstrated evidence of effective interpersonal skills with students, faculty, support staff, and parents as well as care/case managers for Post-Secondary outcomes.
PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS:- Demonstrated evidence of success in working with students with a variety of learning needs and challenges.
- Experience with teaching students with disabilities using modified curriculum towards graduation outcomes.
- Experience in working and collaborating with paraprofessionals, aides and support staff.
This is a ten (10) month position. Participation in a special education summer school (6 weeks, full academic day) is strongly encouraged.
