Job Description TITLE: High School Music Teacher - Deering HighPOSITION OVERVIEW:Deering High School is looking for an experienced music educator to teach grades 9-12. A successful candidate should create a joyful and rigorous learning environment to inspire young minds and help them develop their string skills and musical knowledge. The candidate will also thrive as a teacher while maintaining relationships with stakeholders and students.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:- Differentiating music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the diverse student body
- Building relationships and mentoring students
- Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class, group rehearsals, and music performances
- Preparing students for school concerts, local performances, and other planned music experiences
- Inspiring and motivating students to practice outside of class time and be involved in the local music scene
- Collaborating with both music and non-music colleagues
- Maintaining care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or damage

The Portland Public Schools gives parents an array of program choices. The district as one of the first in the country to offer project-based Expeditionary Learning from kindergarten through 12th grade.
High school students have access to one of the broadest selections of Advanced Placement courses in Maine.
