Status: Ten (10) month position
Work Hours and Schedule: 3.75 Hours/Day (9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.)
Start Date: Wednesday, August 12, 2026
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SUMMARY:
The Food Service Assistant provides support in our student nutrition program by assisting the Kitchen Manager and the Food Service Supervisor in the overall management and organization of the food service program all while providing excellent customer service to staff, students and families.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Place fresh baked cookies in individual bags.
- Pan up cookies for the next day and place on a speedy rack and cover. Once finished, put the cookie rack back into the freezer.
- Clean and sanitize work space before doing any food prep.
- Follow standard recipes and food safety protocols while preparing lunch items.
- Check the menu to see what to prepare. Prepare cold Grab N' Go wraps, subs and sandwiches per menu. Record quantities in the offered column on the Lunch Food Production Record (FPR). Place Grab N' Go's in designated cooler(s).
- Run a cash register during all lunch periods. Perform a cash out procedure at the end of the last lunch and take the cash drawer to the office.
- In between each lunch check to see if more wraps, subs, and sandwiches are needed. Make more, if needed. Record any quantities added on the Lunch FPR. Record any drops or discards of food items on FPR.
- Check the menu again to see if any items need to be pulled and thawed for the next day.
- Between lunches clean and sanitize the tray slide.
- Take dirty dishes to the dishroom as needed.
- Assist in putting stock away. Keep the kitchen manager informed of food and supplies needed.
- Once the last lunch is finished, work with FSA#12 to count and record leftover fruits, vegetables and milk on FPR. Help break down, clean and sanitize the line and help properly wrap and date mark any usable leftover items and put them away in designated coolers.
- Collect leftover cookies from all lines, wrap them and date mark.
- Wipe down tables out in the cafeteria and commons.
- Help wash and sanitize dishes.
- Walk around the kitchen, clean and sanitize
- Help clean coolers, ovens, hot carts, and other equipment according to schedule.
- Clean kitchen bathroom per schedule set by Kitchen Manager.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Regular in-person attendance.
- Any other duties assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Food Service Supervisor.
Note: Food Service Employees running a register must maintain confidentiality regarding student accounts and need to keep all computer register components clean and free of dust. This includes: computer register/monitor, keyboard, mouse, cord and computer stand.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma (or equivalent); and must pass a basic math skills test.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written English language;
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions;
- Ability to work with the general public and students.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:- Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and Board policies / administrative guidelines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicating thoughts succinctly;
- Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision;
- Accurate and detail oriented; and
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administration and the school community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as cooking, washing dishes and operation of a computer keyboard, cash register, and telephone. The employee is required to be on his/her feet walking around the cafeteria and food service department building for several hours at a time. The employee is required to exert physical effort in work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, walking, standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds from floor to waist height. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY:
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud. The work environment is normally indoors with controlled climate conditions. Occasionally the employee may be required to be outdoors for a short period of time, and therefore subject to varying weather conditions, for purposes of accomplishing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the employee to work in different building cafeteria and food service departments as needed. The ability to travel via employee's automobile between buildings is required.
