Position: McKinney-Vento Berkeley County Schools Liaison
Employment Term: Part-Time. This is a grant funded position.
Reports to The Director of Attendance
Job Description: Berkeley County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate McKinney-Vento Liaison to join our team. The McKinney-Vento Liaison will be responsible for working with school personnel to support homeless students and their families, ensuring they have access to educational opportunities and resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help schools identify homeless students and their families within the school district.
• Provide support and resources to homeless students to ensure their educational stability and success.
• Collaborate with school staff, community agencies, and service providers to coordinate services for homeless students.
• Ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
• Advocate for the rights and needs of homeless students and their families.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.
• Conduct training and awareness programs for school staff and the community on issues related to homelessness and education.
• Ensure that unaccompanied youth are enrolled in school, have opportunities to meet the same challenging academic standards as other children and youth, and are informed of their status as independent students for the FAFSA, receiving verification of that status.
• Additional job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related field.
• Experience working with homeless populations in a school setting is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and related regulations.
• Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with vulnerable populations.
• West Virginia Board of Social Work Licensure preferred
Salary: According to Berkeley County Schools' Teacher Salary Scale with verified years of experience and degree level based on 140 days of employment.
