Job Goal(s):

The Cafe Assistant's primary role is to assist in organizing daily café operations and providing a high-quality experience to customers. Daily job duties will include assisting the Cafe Manager with the supervision of students, sales, food preparation, purchasing, cleaning/sanitation, inventory, stocking and scheduling.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma required; Associate's/Bachelor's degree in hospitality or business management or related field preferred.

Certification:
  • ServSafe Manager Certification Required (or ability to obtain)
  • ServSafe Allergen Certification Required (or ability to obtain)
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification Required (or ability to obtain)

Work Experience:

Experience working in the food/beverage service industry preferred

Skills:
  • Strong customer service disposition.
  • Working knowledge of general restaurant/service operations, including personnel management, food planning and preparation, purchasing, sales, sanitation and health codes, and security.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong math/financial literacy skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including point of sale/digital cash register experience.
  • Ability and desire to work collaboratively as a team.
  • Ability to work with students, provide feedback, training and evaluations related to work-based learning.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the Main St. Café.
  • Maintain sanitation, safety and food quality standards.
  • Assist in training staff/students on sanitation, food preparation, sales and proper use of equipment.
  • Assist in training staff/students on customer service expectations & relationship building.
  • Assist in training staff/students on best practices for resolving issues with dissatisfied customers.
  • Assist in developing/organizing schedules for student workers.
  • Assist with ordering products and supplies as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by Van Buren Tech administration.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
