Job Summary:
School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in ethical and evidence-based practice, are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student centered care, and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential. (NASN 2017) The school nurse provides direct and indirect care to multi-age students with acute, episodic and chronic diseases/illnesses, within the framework of the nursing process and includes data collection, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The school nurse strengthens and facilitates educational process by minimizing student health related barriers to learning. The school nurse utilizes specialized clinical knowledge in dealing with school health issues; collaborates with students, families, staff and providers to meet the health and educational needs of students. Acts as a liaison between the school and community. The school nurse works within the structure of the district policies and in congruence with the SC Nurse Practice Act, scope of practice, ANA School Nursing Standards of Practice and applicable state laws and regulations.

Qualifications:
Graduated from an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program-BSN preferredCurrent BLS CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain and maintain certificationAt least one year of recent nursing experience, preferably in school health, pediatrics or community/public healthPossess knowledge in clinical applications & theoriesBasic computer literacy/skillsMaintain state required annual Continuing Education hoursSelf-directed and has ability to work independently and as a team playerMust pass criminal background checkMust pass tuberculosis screening prior to start date
